CRAWFORD & COMPANY - CHARITY SPONSOR OF THE BRITISH INSURANCE AWARDS

Every three seconds, someone, somewhere in the world develops dementia. This debilitating condition strips away people’s memories and sense of self, having a devastating impact on people and their families. More than half of us know somebody with dementia – maybe a parent, a grandparent, a friend, or colleague. That’s why the insurance industry in uniting against dementia – to raise £10 million for desperately needed research, and to increase awareness across the industry.

We’re delighted that for the third year running, Insurance United Against Dementia was the charity partner at last night’s British Insurance Awards. The IUAD campaign launched two years ago at the 2017 ceremony, and since then, the campaign has built great momentum. The campaign has raised an astonishing £1.8 million to date through partnerships with companies and individuals from across the industry. We now have 15,000 Dementia Friends in the sector, all of whom have taken time to learn more about dementia so they can better support people affected by the condition.

Last night, Benedict Burke, Chief Client Officer, Crawford & Co, gave a moving speech about why the cause is so close to his heart. We also shared a video featuring Hannah Dixon, Senior Vendor Manager, Chubb, who recounted how the condition affected her entire family when her dad, Dave developed dementia when Hannah was just 25.  If you missed the film, you can watch it here

Through donations and our silent auction, you raised an incredible £16,540. In addition to this, Benedict announced that Crawford & Co are adding £25,000 to the total, bringing us to a breathtaking £41,540! This is an immensely generous commitment. This is enough to fund one of our PhD researchers for two years as they endeavour to find new treatments for people whose lives have been turned upside down by dementia.
